What is Information technology (IT)?

There is a lot of hype about IT across the globe. India is no exception.

So many people wonder what is IT? What do those geeky looking programmers do?

As the word suggests, IT is the technology or to be precise a set of technologies that manage how information is stored, accessed and transmitted.

IT is used to solve day to day problems as well as the streategic problems.
It is also used by many companies to increase the profitability and productivity...

IT mainly deals with 2 aspects i.e. software and hardware.
Software is a set of programs which make the different hardware components work together....
Hardware is the actual physical component that is a part of computer system....

Present
In today's world, most of the organizations use IT to improve their business operations...
They have all high end computers, servers, data base management systems, in house as well as hird party software applications and reporting systems.

Many times IT can make or break the company....
Look at Amazon.com..this company has no retail outlet...all its business happens online. .
So IT is the most importnat function for this company...

IT is affecting our day to day livess...
Can you imagine your life without a TV or a cell phone?
All these things need underlying IT systems at the TV or cell company...

Can u imagine a life without any ATM machines?
Gone are the days of those long waits at the bank...

Future
IT has a very bright future ahead as more and more people are adopting to it every day...

I still remember an old vendor checking his emails to confirm the orders with his suppliers...
I saw him at a cyber cafe in Mumbai..The guy was 60+ and I could never iamgine that he would know anything about internet...and i was wrong :)

Data security, cloud computing will remain as some of the buzz words in IT tommorow...
